Images, graphics and video

How we use images, graphics and video across our website.

Images and graphics remove focus from text. This means it is more difficult to scan the page for required information. This is especially so if the image is of little relevance to the text.

We do not use images on standard pages. Some exceptions may exist for specific circumstances.

Images used on microsite pages must be relevant to the user need of the page.

Videos

In addition to issues with images and graphics, videos pose further problems.

We cannot guarantee that a user will watch a video. Therefore, we need to ensure that any essential information contained in a video is also available on the page.

We must also ensure that captions are accurate.
