Web content styles

The page templates we have available on our website.

Our website is made up of many pages. Each page contains content types - some only one, some multiple. Content types allow us to present text, images, apps and documents in different ways. Some have built in functionality, for example a date that updates itself (Smart answer) while others provide a template for us to place content into.

Our content types are designed based on the most popular user needs. The information below provides an overview of these content types.

For West Sussex County Council (WSCC) Content Owners - there may be options to develop new functionality as a chargeable service. Submit a request through the normal form to discuss options with the Online Service Delivery (OSD) team.

Content types

These are the available content types and their descriptions:

A-Z alias

The A-Z alias allows us to use a different title instead of the actual page name in the A-Z listing, for example 'Blue Badge scheme' instead of 'The Blue Badge scheme'. In this example, the original page name of 'The Blue Badge scheme' would have displayed in the A-Z under 'T'. The alias allows the listing to display under 'B' in the A-Z, where a customer is more likely to look for it.

Campaign

Time-limited promotional space, usually produced by the Communications team, for example Better roads.

Did you know?

Displays in the footer of all pages to highlight a campaign or statistics. We are not currently displaying this.

Directories

We have different general directory templates available to us. These are:

There are also directories specifically developed for individual services, for example Local offer services.

Contact the OSD team to discuss your directory needs.

Facebook feed

We use this to embed a Facebook feed onto a page. For an example of this see Edes House.

FAQ

We use this to group questions and answers (FAQ items). We try not to use these much because information should be easily located in the text of the page where it is more accessible. You can find the FAQ content type on the Maintaining trees in West Sussex page.

Form

Forms a user completes to submit information to services. There are two form types:

Full page iframe

Embeds an application onto a page. For example, School catchment areas.

Gallery

Allows display of multiple images. These display differently depending on which templates we use, for example, Buchan Country Park.

Guide item

A multi-part page used for tasks requiring a step-by-step process or to break up text, for example How to get adult social care support.

Landing page

An overarching page that houses subpages displayed in a grid as 'tiles', for example Leisure, recreation and community.

Local transaction

Signposts users to district or borough councils for their required service, for example Bin collection days.

Microsite

A section of pages which require their own branding and style, following approval by the Digital Steering Group (DSG). Examples include:

News

News item produced by the Press Office, for example Harvest safety warning issued following Fernhurst farm fire.

Places to visit

Highlights a local place to visit and includes maps, contact details, directions, photos and events, for example Halnaker Windmill.

Places to visit landing page

Landing page to display subpages of places to visit, for example Places to visit and explore.

Smart answer

Highlights a date, which then updates itself when the date passes, for example School term dates.

Standard page

Page of content, normally only text, for example Neighbourhood Watch schemes.

Tag

Filters on news items or campaigns, see News.
