How we decide what to publish

The criteria we use to decide if content is relevant for a council website

One website

We publish all online content on our corporate website and intranet to:

  • maximise the organisations return on investment
  • help users easily find information
  • make it easy for users to self-serve

User needs

We only publish web content to meet:

  • a specific user need or journey
  • an evidenced policy, regulatory or statutory requirement to publish

Evidence based

To make informed decisions about complex web content changes, we use:

  • analytics data
  • customer feedback
  • user testing results

Quality

We publish content according to our writing standards to ensure quality and consistency.

Accessibility

Web content, including online documents, must be well structured and compliant with both relevant legislation and best practice to ensure they are accessible.

We actively avoid publishing online documents where possible recognising they are more difficult for users to use compared to web pages.

Value

The content we publish must show a clear benefit to the customer experience of the website. For example, images must be relevant to the written content or information must be necessary for the user need.

Originality

Content must be original and not copied from other sources.
