  • An apprenticeship is a flexible role where you will work alongside colleagues to provide a customer focused service to others.

    During your training and work experience, you will learn to complete a range of tasks within timescales to a competent standard.

    If you undertake and complete the relevant Civil Engineering Apprenticeship qualification, this will also include registration as an Engineering Technician by the relevant professional engineering institution.

    Apprenticeships include:

    • Business Administration (Grade 3)
    • Junior Management Consultant (Grade 4)
    • Project Management (Grade 6)
  • You will work within the forward-thinking Highways, Transport and Planning Service, responsible for delivering and supporting sustainable projects through the coordination, implementation and promotion of key objectives within the county.

    You will help ensure that services are delivered to customers flexibly, efficiently and effectively, undertaking a range of tasks as directed whilst maintaining a high standard of work.

  • You will provide support for the highways teams to help ensure that services are delivered to customers flexibly, efficiently and effectively, undertaking a range of tasks as directed whilst maintaining a high standard of work.

    You’ll make a positive contribution to the development of sustainable communities in West Sussex.

  • After you will assist in

    • ensuring that projects are developed and delivered on time
    • quality procedures are followed
    • management systems being utilised and updated
    • schemes being delivered at the required quality and to budget
    • delivery of the communication and consultation requirements of the scheme
  • You will be responsible for delivering technical solutions and supporting sustainable communities through the co-ordination, implementation, and promotion of key objectives within the county.

    You will be working with engineering and highway colleagues and contractors to deliver the works programme effectively and efficiently.

  • The Highway Steward is responsible for supporting the delivery of a safe highway network to all residents of West Sussex, through the regular inspection and repair of the highways and enforcement of highway legislation.

  • You will provide effective stewardship of the area and be responsible for the delivery of a quality highway network, through regular inspection and repairs.

    You will act as mentor to highway stewards and task manage day to day activities, advising them of resolutions to difficult highway problems, providing technical input where necessary to provide solutions to highway maintenance, administration and licencing issues.

  • You will lead a team of highway inspection professionals who are responsible for undertaking statutory safety inspections across the county’s highway network.

    As the team leader, you will be required to effectively plan and deliver inspections to ensure that they are timely and resourced appropriately and recommend any changes to improve operations.

  • You will be a lead engineer, providing advice and guidance across the service and directorate in relation to the most complex professional and technical issues. You will act as a mentor to support the maintenance and development of professional practice across the service within the specialist field.

  • As well as being able to project manage works delivery, you will be required to appraise and challenge design decisions, whilst managing a team with the responsibility for development and delivery of demanding infrastructure projects.

  • This role is responsible for providing project management for the delivery and development of the annual capital investment programme and requires a strong background in infrastructure projects.

  • A Delivery Manager will either lead a team who deliver the highways service in a discrete geographical area, or they may have a countywide specialism/responsibility for an aspect of the highway service.

    The role will contribute to the development and shape of future team or group service provision and build and maintain relationships and influence activities including working across and outside of the organisation.

  • This senior manager position is accountable for the provision of specialist expertise delivering technical solutions through the management of a team of professional engineers across a variety of specialisms in the Highways and Network divisions. As an example, these can include Asset Manager for Drainage and Structures, Highways Network and Traffic Manager and Traffic Signals and Street Lighting Consultant.

  • As Head of Service , you will be responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the service, ensuring the successful delivery of a range of high-profile projects and programmes. We have a Head of Service in the following areas:

    • Business Assurance
