Preparing for and finding employment
Information about employment and help towards a paid job.
It is best to start thinking about what jobs might interest you in the future from year 8 onwards.
Get started by talking to teachers, family and friends. The ‘Your Futures’ website is also a great resource to help with this. Your school will also provide careers advice and guidance.
If you:
- have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), your Year 9 Annual Review should include preparing for employment, such as thinking about how you might get to a place of work and what type of work interests you
- want support towards paid work, look at the information about study and training programmes and supported employment
- have an EHCP, find out about supported internships
- are ready for a paid job with training, consider apprenticeships where you get paid while you learn
Jobcentre Plus can help you, and Your Futures can connect you with local jobs that you can apply for today.
The National Development Team for Inclusion (NDTi) has information to explain pathways to paid work.
