Targeted Provision

About

This is an independent alternative provider of education (IAP), which is part of the West Sussex County Council's Dynamic Purchasing System. If you would like to access IAP, please follow the Local Offer guide at Independent Alternative Provision.

Targeted Provision offers relationship-led education packages for children and young people with SEND and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, helping them to engage with learning and fulfil their potential. Support is delivered by experienced, trauma-aware teachers and takes place at home, in school, in community venues and online.

We accept referrals from schools, local authorities or other educational organisations. At present, we do not accept referrals directly from parents or carers.

What we do

  • About us - Our support is designed to cater to the needs of young people with unmet SEND and SEMH needs, including, but not limited to young people who: - Are experiencing high anxiety, including those with emotionally based school avoidance - Are care-experienced or have a social worker - Are permanently excluded or at risk of permanent exclusion - Are known to the Youth Offending Team - Are medically unable to attend school - Are an Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Child (UASC) - Are awaiting a Special School place
  • Teachers - All our teachers are qualified teachers with a minimum of 2 years’ experience supporting young people with additional needs. Many have dedicated their careers working with the most vulnerable learners and have experience working with other agencies such as social services and CAMHS to support young people. As true experts in their fields, they have the confidence to work creatively with our young people, drawing on their deep expertise to successfully engage even those who have historically been the hardest to reach. Our recruitment process is unapologetically demanding, as evidenced by the fact that only 5% of teachers who apply to support our young people are successful.
  • Wraparound support - We believe that a teacher alone is not enough and so provide a Team Around the Child in the form of SEND Support Team which includes our SENDCo, Safeguarding Team, and SEND specialist staff. This team ensures our provision is appropriate for each young person, catering to their needs, wants, and their aspirations.
  • Transition support - Our ultimate goal is to help young people enjoy learning again and engage with their futures. Where appropriate, we want to support young people to reintegrate back into a permanent educational setting where their needs can be met in the long term. Our SEND Specialists have developed a Reintegration scheme of work to help the young person, their school, family, and tutor to plan and monitor progress towards a successful reintegration. Our tutors can attend school visits to support young people to make a successful transition back into full-time provision and our team can attend planning and strategy meetings
  • Exams - We are a registered exam centre for Functional Skills. We can provide young people who receive tuition with us with access to Entry Level 3 and Level 1 and 2 qualifications for Maths and English. Through our partnership with Tutors and Exams we can arrange access to GCSE and A Level qualifications.

Our users say

T is loving his lessons. I donʼt even have to remind him to go on. Do you think he could be allowed some more now? Theyʼre invigorating him, not tiring him. I can hear a marked, happier, more alive boy during his lessons.'

'This tutor is working absolute wonders with L from what I can see. She is describing L as settled and feeling safe for a lot of the time even with demands placed upon her itʼs so nice to read and I feel extremely assured that L is happy with this tutor. Please pass on my thanks to B. I am delighted!'
