West Sussex County Council proud to sponsor the Social Worker of the Year Awards 2024

West Sussex County Council is proudly sponsoring an awards ceremony that will celebrate the achievements of social work across England.

The council is supporting two awards, ‘Children’s Services Team of the Year’ and the ‘Children’s Newly Qualified Social Worker of the Year,’ at the Social Worker of the Year Awards 2024.

This year the awards have 19 different categories across both children’s and adult services including two new categories for 2024; the Technology Enabled Lives and Practice Award and Practitioner-Led Research Award.

Peter Hay CBE, Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Social Work Awards charity, said: “I am delighted that West Sussex County Council is supporting and sponsoring these two award categories this year. In the current climate, it is more important than ever that we come together to recognise great practice and great people in the field of social work.”

Councillor Jacquie Russell, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Learning and Skills, said:  “I’m very happy to support the awards, which are a great opportunity to showcase excellence in the social work profession. Our Children’s Services teams have made significant improvements to our practice over the last few years, and do a fantastic job safeguarding children, young people and their families, and supporting them to thrive. I would encourage anyone thinking about a career in social work, or who’s looking to take the next step, to consider making West Sussex your social work home. Good luck to all the nominees this year and thank you for the excellent work you do.”

Councillor Amanda Jupp, Cabinet Member for Adults’ Services, said:  “I am incredibly proud of the work of our social workers and every member of the teams in Children’s and Adults’ Services. Together they help keep thousands of people safe from vulnerable situations across the county. West Sussex is a great place to work in social care and I am really pleased that we have the opportunity to sponsor this year’s awards.”

Nominations for the awards are free to enter. Entries will be open until 12pm on Monday 3 June 2024. Winners will be announced in November at an awards ceremony in London.
